Enrolled Agent (EA)
A federally-licensed tax professional authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS.
Full Definition
An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax professional who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the IRS by either passing a comprehensive three-part exam or through prior IRS experience. EAs are the only federally-licensed tax practitioners who specialize in taxation and have unlimited practice rights before the IRS. They can represent any taxpayer on any tax matter, including audits, collections, and appeals. EAs must complete continuing education requirements to maintain their license.
