Power of Attorney (Form 2848)
IRS authorization form that allows a tax professional to represent you before the IRS.
Full Definition
Form 2848, Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative, authorizes an individual (such as an attorney, CPA, or Enrolled Agent) to represent you before the IRS. With a valid POA, your representative can receive confidential tax information, speak with the IRS on your behalf, sign agreements, and receive copies of IRS correspondence. Form 2848 must specify the tax matters and years covered. You can revoke a POA at any time, and multiple representatives can be authorized on the same form.
