Record of Account Transcript
Combines the return transcript and the account transcript into one document. Useful when a request calls for both without saying which.
Full Definition
A record of account transcript is the IRS's combined transcript. The IRS states it "combines the tax return and tax account transcripts above into one complete transcript" — so it carries both what was filed and everything that happened to the account afterward, including assessments, payments, and adjustments.
The trade-off is availability. Where a wage and income transcript reaches back nine prior years, the IRS states the record of account transcript is available for only "the current and three prior tax years" — the same narrower window as its two component transcripts taken separately.
It is the transcript to request when something asks for your return and account history without specifying which document satisfies that, since it is the one document that is both at once.
What to do next
Request the tax account transcript alone first if all you need is the Collection Statute Expiration Date or a payment history — the record of account carries more paper for the same information if that is the only thing in question.
